嘔吐は睡眠中にしてしまうこともありえます。睡眠中に嘔吐をしてしまう場合にはさまざまな原因が考えられますが、原因としては何らかの意味で体の調子が悪い状態にあるということは間違いがないと言えます。睡眠中の嘔吐についてはどのような原因が考えられるのでしょうか。また、その対処法はどうすれば良いのでしょうか。

嘔吐は何らかの理由で体調が良くない場合における体のひとつの防衛反応です。
例えば、身近なところでは、お酒を飲みすぎてしまった時などに嘔吐をしてしまいます。これは、体が受け付けることができるアルコール量を超えてしまった時に防衛反応として嘔吐をすることで体の健康状態を維持しようとする作用です。嘔吐をしてしまうということは体に何かしら良くない状態が生じている状態ということができます。

睡眠中に嘔吐をしてしまう場合(あるいは強い吐き気をもよおしてしまう場合)には、何らかの体調不良があると考えて良いと言えます。睡眠中に嘔吐をしてしまう原因としてはさまざまなものが考えられます。

例えば、あまりお酒に強くない方がお酒の飲み過ぎてそのまま眠りにはいられた場合、睡眠中にアルコールを分解できず嘔吐してしまうことがあるでしょう(俗に言う「寝ゲロ」というものです)。また風邪に感染してしまい、睡眠中に風邪が発症した場合に嘔吐をしてしまうことがあります。特に風邪のウィルスが胃腸に入り込む「胃腸風邪」のケースでは睡眠中も絶えず嘔吐・下痢などをもよおしますので大変つらい状態になります。

これら飲みすぎ・風邪などによる睡眠中の嘔吐は体調不良の原因としては比較的軽いものということができます。

一方でたいへん重い病気でも睡眠中に嘔吐をしてしまうということがあります。例えば、胃がん・胃潰瘍などの場合にも激しい嘔吐の症状があらわれます。また、消化器系の病気ではなくとも、脳腫瘍、くも膜下出血など脳の重大な疾患でも睡眠中に吐き気や嘔吐をもよおすことがあります。

中年以降の方、ご年配の方が睡眠中に嘔吐の症状が出た場合には、遅くとも翌日には病院へと行かれる必要があります。場合によっては大事を考えて救急車を呼ぶこともためらわれる必要はないということができます。

このように睡眠中の嘔吐は、風邪などの軽い症状・原因から、非常に重篤な病気が原因となるなどさまざまな可能性があり得るということができます。

睡眠中に嘔吐がある場合の応急対処のポイント

睡眠中に嘔吐の症状がある場合、救急車を呼ぶなどの緊急的な対処法以外には、次のようなポイントに気をつけることが重要です。

口内を清潔にすること

睡眠中に嘔吐があった場合、まずはうがいなどで口内を清潔にすることが重要です。嘔吐物は臭いが強く、口内にその臭いが残りますので、臭いによって再度の吐き気・嘔吐をもよおしてしまうことが十分にあります。

睡眠中に嘔吐をしてしまった場合には、場合によってはベットが汚れてしまっているなど不都合なことが多いかもしれません。しかし、まずはご自身の口内を綺麗にされることですっきりとして対処をすることが大切です。

水分補給をすること

これは風邪によって嘔吐が繰り返されているような場合にとても重要となります。嘔吐をすると水分が体から出て行ってしまうので、脱水症状になりやすくなります。そのため、脱水症状とならないよう、水分補給をしっかりとされてから睡眠に戻られることが大切です。

気道を確保すること

これは赤ちゃんなどが睡眠中に嘔吐をしてしまった場合などに大切なことです。赤ちゃんなどは嘔吐してしまった場合に吐いたものの一部が気道に詰まり、呼吸困難となってしまうことがありえます。特に睡眠中は体をさまざまな方向に向けていることから気道に嘔吐物が入ってしまいやすくなります。

赤ちゃんや幼児などが睡眠中に嘔吐をした場合には気道を確保してあげることがとても重要と言えます。背中などをしっかりとさすってあげるなどして呼吸の状態を確認してあげましょう。

ご年配の方などの場合には重病の可能性を考えること

さらにご睡眠中に激しい嘔吐がある場合には、先ほど述べましたように胃がんや脳の病気などの命に関わる重病の可能性がありえます。 特にご年配の方、中年以降の方で睡眠中に急に嘔吐があり、吐血を伴ったり異常な頭痛があるような場合には重い病気の可能性も考える必要があります。この場合にはすぐに救急車を呼ぶことが必要と言えるでしょう。
