花粉症の4大症状といえばくしゃみ・鼻水・鼻づまり・目のかゆみですが、これらの目や鼻などの症状以外にも意外な症状を発症することがあります。

代表的な症状の原因として花粉が目や鼻や口などの粘膜に付着することでアレルギー症状を引き起こすという事があげられるわけですが、この症状を発症する原因となっている花粉が消化器系に入り込んで影響を及ぼすことで、腹痛や下痢などの症状を引き起こすこともあります。

今回は、このような消化器系にみられる花粉症の症状のメカニズムと対策方法についてみていくことにしましょう。

消化器系にみられる花粉症症状のメカニズム

では、目や鼻などに主な症状がみられる花粉症の症状がなぜ消化器系にまで影響することがあるのかそのメカニズムに迫っていきましょう。

花粉の体への影響とは

花粉

花粉を異物として判別し、急激にその異物を排除しようとする働きをアレルギー反応といいますが、このアレルギー反応はその体質を持つ人であれば体のどこで作用してもおかしくはないと言われています。主に花粉が付着するのが目や鼻や口などの粘膜であるためにその症状がこれらの部位に集中するだけであって、実は体のどこで起きてもおかしくないのです。

つまり、体内に侵入したとしたらその場所でアレルギー反応を発症するという事が言えるわけです。ごく少量では何ともない胃腸にもある程度の花粉が入り込むことで腹痛や下痢などの症状につながるアレルギー反応が引き起こされるという事なのです。

どのようにして体内に侵入するのか

わかりやすい例を挙げて見てみましょう。まず花粉の飛散量が多い日に長時間外出したとします。当然大量の花粉が衣服や体に付着しますが、マスクもつけずに花粉所の症状で鼻呼吸ができなければ口をあけっぱなしの状態になります。すると喉や口の中にも大量の花粉が付着することになります。つばを飲み込んだり鼻をすすったりすることでこれらの花粉が胃腸に飲み込まれたとしたらどうでしょうか。

この例では極端な表現をしてはいますが、これが消化器系に花粉症の症状を引き起こすメカニズムなのです。

どのように発症するのか

消化器系に入り込んだ花粉によってアレルギー反応を引き起こすことで症状を発症することは言わずと知れたことでしょうが、消化器に入ったからと言ってすぐにその症状を引き起こすわけではありません。

まず胃腸の粘膜に花粉が付着することで徐々に炎症を引き起こしていきます。その炎症がある程度広がった段階で痛みや違和感などを感じ始めますから、たとえば夜中に急に原因がわからない腹痛や下痢に襲われるようになるわけです。

花粉が胃腸の粘膜に付着すると、胃酸の分泌量はアレルギー反応が原因で大量に出始めます。するとこの胃酸に胃壁が耐えられなくなり潰瘍などの症状に発展してしまうのです。ですから花粉が原因だとはなかなか考えにくいのが胃腸に現れる花粉症症状ですが、実際にはこのようなことが体内で起きてしまっているのです。

消化器系の花粉症症状を防ぐには

このような症状を発症しないように予防する具体的な対策方法にはどのようなものがあるのか見ていきましょう。

花粉の侵入を防ぐ

何といっても花粉が入り込んで胃腸に達することで腹痛や下痢の症状を発症するわけですから、まずはその侵入を最低限減らすとこが必要になります。具体的な対策は以下の通りです。

マスクの着用を心がける
すでに鼻などの症状を引き起こしている場合には特に口での呼吸を余儀なくされます。すると、花粉が口内に入り込んでしまうわけですからそれをマスクで防ごうというわけです。

マスクの効果は消化器への花粉の侵入を阻止するうえで大変効果的です。マスクだけでも鼻の症状がずいぶん違うわけですから、それだけ消化器への侵入を防ぐうえでも効果があるのです。

うがいを心がける
外出時には多かれ少なかれ花粉が付着してしまいますが、この花粉を体内に取り込まないようにするためにうがいをしたり口をすすいだりする事を心がけましょう。

花粉症だけでなくインフルエンザや風邪に代表されるウィルスや細菌などの疾患の原因となるものを体外に排出するためにうがいや口をすすぐことは大変効果的なことだといわれています。口の周りを清潔にしておくことで花粉による胃腸への影響を軽減することができます。

体調管理を心がける

花粉を取り込まないようにする対策とともに入り込んでも影響を受けにくい体作りを心がけることも大切です。

胃腸を整える
日常生活や食生活から胃腸にストレスがたまるといろいろな疾患を発症しやすくなることは一般的にも知られていることです。特に食事内容が偏るとそれだけでも胃腸には大きな負担がかかるようになりさまざまな障害を受けやすくなってしまいます。

バランスのとれた食生活と免疫力を高める生活態度を心がけることで胃腸に入り込んだ花粉でアレルギー反応を引き起こしにくくすることができますから、腹痛や下痢などの症状を引き起こさないためにも胃腸の環境を整えることを心がけるといいでしょう。

ストレスを溜め込まない
規則正しい生活のリズムや食生活の見直しをしても、精神的なストレスなどで大きく胃腸などの変化を感じる人は多くいます。例えば潰瘍などの疾患は精神的なストレスが原因で発症するケースも数多くあるほどです。

仕事や家庭のこと、人間関係や経済的な心配など生きていくうえでさまざまなことに頭を悩ませるのが人ですが、このようなストレスを抱え込むことで体の免疫力も下がってしまうという事が研究でわかっています。

なるべくストレスを抱え込まないようにすることを心がけて、心身ともに健康な状態を保つことが強健な体を作る上でとても大切なことなのです。
