急性期は、椎間板ヘルニアを発症してすぐの時期です。特徴は、とにかく激痛を発症しやすいということです。一番の治療方法は安静です。その他の治療方法としては、内服薬・座薬・筋弛緩剤・ステロイド剤などの鎮静剤、仙骨硬膜外ブロック・選択的神経ブロック・椎間板内ステロイドなどの注射があります。薬物療法や注射以外にも、コルセットを装着するということも挙げられます。

慢性期は、腕がある程度動かせる状態になりますので、痛みも我慢できるくらいになります。慢性期に腕を動かす治療を行わないと、回復期になっても腕が動かせなくなるということがよくあります。そのため、この時期はとにかく運動療法に力を入れるようにします。例えば、腕をしっかり振ってウォーキングをしたり、筋をゆっくり伸ばすストレッチを行ったりします。他にも、筋力回復訓練や水中ウォーキングなどもあります。

回復期では、腕には全く痛みを感じません。慢性期にしっかり腕を動かしていれば、回復期もそのまま継続することで、椎間板ヘルニアが完治していきます。

椎間板ヘルニアにおけるブロック注射は、一時的な痛みを抑えるに過ぎません。できれば、急性期から慢性期にかけては痛みと上手に付き合いながら、整体やカイロプラクティックなどの専門治療院で、身体を調整しながら椎間板ヘルニアを完治させるといいでしょう。

椎間板ヘルニアの再発防止方法

椎間板ヘルニアを予防するには、正しい姿勢に取り組むということが重要です。腰は身体の真ん中にあって、上半身を支えながら、下半身を動かすという大切な部分です、毎日の生活の中の、立つ・座る・歩くというどの動作でも腰に負担がかかっています。

中でも、腰椎を大きく左右に曲げる動きや、腰椎を曲げた状態で曲がった部分に過度に重さがかかる動きは、腰椎に過剰な負担をかけ、椎間板ヘルニアの原因となります。つまり、日常生活の中で、腰を曲げたままにしたり、その状態で負荷をかける動作を行ったりすると、椎間板ヘルニアを起こしやすいと言えます。

例えば、激しいスイングを行うゴルフや、腰をひねるスキー、水泳などのスポーツは、急激に身体をひねる動作を行いますので知らない間に腰に負荷をかけています。また、バレーボールやバスケットなどの頻繁にジャンプをする競技も、着地した衝撃が腰に伝わって腰椎を傷めてしまうことがあります。スポーツをする方は、背骨を支える筋肉のトレーニングも合わせて行うようにしましょう。

スポーツをしなくても、長時間同じ姿勢をとることで腰に負担がかかります。また、足を組んだり、あぐらや横座りをしたりすると、不自然に腰を曲げている状態で上半身の重みがかかりますので、負荷になります。日常生活の中で、不自然な姿勢をとることが多い方や、デスクワークが多い方、姿勢が悪い方は、できるだけ姿勢を正すように心がけましょう。
